New Commission!
We are very excited to announce that we have commissioned a piece of music from John Barber. John is a young composer, originally from Bristol, who is making quite a splash with his enchanting and versatile compositions. He studied with Harrison Birtwistle and has written music for such illustrious institutions as The Royal Opera, Glyndebourne and The Globe, but is equally at home composing for community choirs and with his band Firefly Burning. His opera ‘We are Shadows’ received rave reviews in 2011 and involved children running around Shoreditch Church (missing double maths, perhaps?) dressed as rats, supported by five singers from The Sixteen. His cantata Consider The Lilies won a British Composer Award in 2011 and lilies crop up again in his composition Sicut Lilium for the Ora Singers, using a luscious text from the Song of Songs. How could we not be tingling with anticipation as to what John comes up with, given this enticing trawl through his oeuvre. The Times reviewer wrote of We Are Shadows that the audience was ‘…in the grip of delight.’ We have much to look forward to, then.
Join Paragon Singers on the evening of Saturday 24th March, 2018 for a concert featuring the world premiere of John’s new piece. More details coming soon…
